Clout helps set up 1-wicket win

A round-up of senior grade cricket games played in Dunedin at the weekend.

University-Grange 159 lost to Albion 161/9

Albion left-armer Tommy Clout helped set up a tense one-wicket win over University-Grange in a Dunedin 50-over game at Memorial Park on Saturday.

Clout grabbed five for 54 to help roll University for 159, while Matthew West claimed four for 33 in an excellent spell as well.

University opener Daniel Kibby played a loan hand with a fine knock of 86 from 79 deliveries.

Ollie Louden chipped in a valuable 28 in the only other substantial contribution.

The chase went poorly initially. Jamal Todd (2) and Lewis Garden (1) departed rapidly and Taylor Cumberland’s dismissal for 26 left Albion 73 for six.

But Dylan Fletcher played a match-winning undefeated knock of 44. He got valuable help from West (33) and No 11 James Brown (1 not out) saw off 14 balls in a nail-biting last wicket stand.

North East Valley 199/8 beat CDK 159/6 by three runs (DLS method)

North East Valley held on to beat CDK in a rain-affected match at Tonga Park.

Valley batted first and reached 199 for eight from 50 overs.

Jeremy Smith (39) and Hayden Johnston (36) top-scored. It was Johnston’s 100th game for the club.

The wickets were shared around but Jonty Fleck was the pick of the CDK bowlers with two for 12.

CDK chased a revised target of 163 from 35 overs but came up short, posting 159 for six.

Yuvraj Khara top-scored with 44 from 27, while Kaleb McKay took two for 17 to help Valley hold on.

Taieri 213/7 lost to Green Island 208/8 by two wickets (DLS method)

Green Island edged Taieri in a tight rain-affected match at Sunnyvale.

The visitors posted a competitive tally of 213 for seven.

Cameron Elliott compiled a patient 50 from 90 balls and Adam Jones’ 49 from 96 provided the platform.

Ben Lockrose swatted 40 from 41 and Sam Duff chipped in with 28 not out from 21 balls.

Hamish Wilson took four for 61 for Green Island, who chased a revised target of 206 from 47 overs.

Joel Meade provided the momentum with 78 from 80 balls, and Jed Mockford (41) and Elliot Santner (35) made solid contributions as well.

Some quick wickets fell at the end but Green Island’s Max Meffan hit a four to seal the win with 13 balls to spare.
