The Saddle Hill Steamers won the franchise series on Saturday with a commanding win over the Central Knights.

The Knights batted first at Tonga Park and were dismissed for 189, with Jesse Simpson scoring 109. Simpson, at No 3, timed the ball well, but none of his team-mates could stay with him and he was last man out. Dion Lobb bowled well to take six for 49.

In reply, Ant Harris brought up victory with two sixes off consecutive balls, to also bring up his century.

In the other game, North-West Suburbs batted first at Sunnyvale and scored 279 for six in 60 overs, with Geordie Scott scoring an unbeaten 111, his first senior grade century.

Scott brought up his 50 in 62 balls but hit his second 50 in 23 balls. He hit 11 fours and four sixes. Russell Thomas chipped in with 46.

Eastern Beaches reached the target with the loss of just three wickets, and with more than three overs left. Nathan King hit an unbeaten 95, while Jamie Glenn and Peter Cairns chipped in with half centuries.

• Ranfurly scored a two-run win over Palmerston in their Eastern Districts game at the weekend.

Batting first, Ranfurly scored 140, with Tim Miller (25) and Chris Miller (20) the main contributors. For Palmerston, Aaron Rae took three for 19 and Ben Camplin three for 30.

In reply, Palmerston looked to have the game in the bag but it lost five wickets for six runs and was dismissed for 138.

Ranfurly's Mark McAuley caused the late damage, picking up three for 17 including a hat trick. Greg Stevenson-Wright scored 71 for Palmerston.
