Cricket: Glenn club player of the year

Albion had to settle for second in the Bing Harris Shield but one of its stalwarts claimed the individual honours.

All-rounder Jamie Glenn was named club player of the year at the awards evening last night.

Glenn took 44 wickets and scored 582 runs to help put Albion in contention for the senior banner.

The club could have shared the title with Green Island had it beaten the Swamp Rats in the last game of the summer.

Green Island veteran seamer Dion Lobb claimed the bowling award for his haul of 52 wickets at an average of 12.2.

He also took nine for 15 in a game. Batsman of the year went to Brad Rodden. He scored 593 runs for Carisbrook-Dunedin and also made his provincial debut for Otago, scoring a maiden hundred in his second first-class game.

Kaikorai's Iain Robertson scored the fastest hundred (78 balls) and Shaun Haig was named umpire of the year.

Donna Burns was the recipient of the Gordon McGregor Trophy for services to cricket.

She has worked tirelessly to attract junior players to the Taieri club and find the funding to provide them with the resources to enjoy the sport.

In the team awards, Green Island was presented with the Bing Harris Shield and also won the Declaration Cup and the Challenge Cup.

The one-day competition was won by Carisbrook-Dunedin.
