Cricket: Otago sniffs 1st innings points

Otago is edging closer to securing first innings points in its four-day match with Northern Districts at the University Oval.

At lunch, Otago is 202 for five in reply to Northern's 275.

Neil Broom is undefeated on 42 and Derek de Boorder is at the wicket with him on three.

The wickets were shared around in the morning session with Bruce Martin, Brent Arnel and Graeme Aldridge picking up one apiece.

Otago captain and opener Craig Cumming was undone 15 short of what would have been his 12 first-class century when he nicked Arnel to the keeper.

During the lunch break a shower doused the ground and the covers are on.

Play was scheduled to resume at 1.10pm but a delay is expected.

Northern 275 (Kane Wiiliamson 82, Michael Parlane 41, Nathan McCullum three for 46)

Otago 202/5 (Craig Cumming 85, Neil Broom 42 not out, Trent Boult 2/39)
