The star all-rounder left for his next assignment early this morning and had planned to stay up all night celebrating Otago's four-wicket win against Wellington in the final of the HRV Cup at the University Oval yesterday.
The classy Dutch international played a key role in Otago's remarkable 10-game winning streak in the tournament and says he leaves the city with some fantastic memories.
''It has been a pretty special campaign,'' he said.
''To win 10 on the bounce is beyond belief. I played in a tournament a year ago where we lost every single game, so this has been a sharp contrast.
''There is immense pride in the process we've been through and great satisfaction in being so clinical. It is a credit to everyone involved.''
Ten Doeschate said his lasting memory will be meeting the team for the first time and immediately feeling comfortable.
''Literally from that minute I've been made to feel welcome and I think that has helped my cricket a lot. I think I said to you right at the beginning of the campaign I was desperate to come over here and rediscover myself as a cricketer and that has definitely happened. I feel like I'm in the form of my life and in control of how I'm going about twenty/20 cricket.''
Ten Doeschate was Otago's most consistent batsmen during the campaign. He paced his innings superbly and his ability to lift the tempo at the right moment helped keep Otago's winning streak alive. In yesterday's final he played an important role with a hard-hit 21 from 11 deliveries.
''I don't know what Otago's needs and wants will be in a year's time and it is a long way away, but I'd certainly want to make myself available.''
