Another day, another rising Otago star cracking a ton.

Barely 24 hours after North Otago batsman Llewellyn Johnson smashed a record 159 at the South Island primary schools tournament in Christchurch, a city boy got into the act.

Thirteen-year-old Jack Pryde scored an unbeaten 102 for Dunedin in its final game of the week, against Otago Country, yesterday.

Jack, about to move from Fairfield School to Otago Boys' High School, faced 103 balls and stroked 18 boundaries.

He and Kyle Burns added an undefeated 109 for the seventh wicket as Dunedin made 215 for six, before Otago Country managed 64 for nine.

Jack, a right-handed batsman, also starred with the ball this week. On Tuesday, he took five for nine against South Canterbury, becoming the second Dunedin cricketer (following Declan Su'a) in successive years to claim a hat trick.

Jack's century was the first by a Dunedin batsman at the annual tournament since Ashley Simpson's 103 not out against Buller in 2005.

Other century-makers for Dunedin (previously Otago) have been Sean Eathorne (2000), Leslie Richards (1981), Ken Rutherford (1979), Bruce Blair (1972), Colin Jackson (1972) and Ian Rutherford (two in 1971, one in 1969).

Christchurch Red won the tournament with five straight wins. Simon Yorston and Issac Anderson both scored centuries against Nelson yesterday.

Final points: Christchurch Red 25, Canterbury Country 22, Christchurch Black, Dunedin, Nelson 18, Mid Canterbury 17, Marlborough 14, Invercargill, North Otago, South Canterbury 13, Otago Country, South Canterbury 10, West Coast 9, Buller 4.
