Green Island 165 lost to North East Valley 166

North East Valley made hard work of it but managed to get across the line at Sunnyvale against the home team in senior club play on Saturday.

With the Volts players lining up among teams, Green Island welcomed back Nick Kelly but he did not contribute much.

Green Island batted first and Geordie Scott and Gregor Croudis combined in a second wicket partnership if 93. Once Scott departed for a well compiled 39, the wheels started to fall off for the home team. Wickets fell regularly and Michael Rae took three wickets though they came at an expensive rate. Anaru Kitchen also picked up three wickets as Green Island was all out at the start of the 34th for 165.

Croudis scored 72.

North East Valley did enough to get to the not too challenging target though no-one got a half century.

Hunter Kindley made 46 while Tom Griffin made 41, sharing a 62-run partnership which put the Valley side close to victory. Jack Mockford took four wickets for the home team.

The target was reached at the start of the 35th over.

Kaikorai 97 lost to Caris-Dunedin 100 for two

Kaikorai had a day to forget with the bat to give Carisbrook-Dunedin an easy win at Tonga Park on Saturday. The visiting team batted first but never made an impression, and was all out for 97 in the 35th over.

Michael Rippon got to 30 for the Kaikorai side but it was carnage around him. Only one other player made it into double figures as the side lost wickets at regular intervals. Rippon was last man out as he tried to get the side to three figures.

The best bowler for the home team was medium pacer Richard Sillars, who took four wickets, while Kurt Johnston also picked up three wickets.

The home team knocked off the target with ease, winning the match in the 13th over. Cam Hawkins made 53 and two Volts players, Dean Foxcroft and Nathan Smith, were in the middle when the game was won.

Taieri 141 lost to Albion 145 for seven

Taieri failed to deliver in a key match at home on Saturday. With opponent Albion close to Taieri in the overall points standings, the winner would have had an advantage.

Taieri batted first at Brooklands and only managed to get through to 141, losing its final wicket in the 39th over. It was slow stuff at times and Matt Bacon was the man for the visiting team.

He opened the bowling and bowled nearly 14 overs, taking six wickets in the process. Others chipped in and Taieri lost wickets in clumps.

Albion was far from convincing with the bat but an eighth-wicket partnership between Angus McKenzie and Tommy Clout got the side home.

They came together with the visiting team sitting on 85 for seven wickets and still needing more than 50 runs to win.

Clout though kept his composure and the duo batted more than 10 overs. McKenzie hit eight fours in his undefeated 50 while Clout hit 22 of his unbeaten knock of 27 in boundaries as Albion got home in the 28th over.
