Jacob Duffy will not want this year to end.

It has been an incredible 12 months for the New Zealand and Otago right-armer, and he collected more West Indies’ tears yesterday.

He also eclipsed Sir Richard Hadlee’s long-standing record for the most wickets in a calendar year for New Zealand.

Duffy led the Black Caps to a 323-run win in the third test in Mt Maunganui.

The 31-year-old Southlander nabbed five wickets on the final day — nine in the match — to help clinch a 2-0 series win.

He finished the three-game series with 23 wickets and picked up the player of the series award.

Duffy was previously named player of the series for the T20 series against the West Indies.

He is also the combined leading international wicket-taker in 2025. Duffy has 81 wickets across the three formats, which is the most wickets taken for New Zealand in a calendar year.

He bumped Sir Richard down a spot.

You may have heard of Sir Richard — he took 79 wickets in 1985, including nine for 52 against Australia in arguably the greatest spell of fast bowling in test history.

Sir Richard’s record haul stood for 40 years until the unassuming Duffy removed Roston Chase with a brutal bouncer after the lunch break yesterday.
