And Scott Kuggeleijn shone with the ball and played a nice cameo with the bat.
The Black Caps dominated the warm-up twenty20 match against the Sri Lanka Board President's XI to win by 33 runs.
It was a promising result which bodes well for the three-game series that begins in Kandy early tomorrow morning New Zealand time.
Munro smacked 48 from 27. He is Maori Hill in twenty20 and Caversham in one-day cricket.
Taylor dispatched four sixes in a rapid knock of 53 from 34 balls to help New Zealand post 168 for six. The veteran played with freedom.
Kuggeleijn (four for 19) teamed up with Ish Sodhi (three for 43) to restrict the opposition to 135 for nine.
Kuggeleijn had earlier swatted three fours from four balls to help push New Zealand's total out of reach.
Black Caps batting coach Peter Fulton was pleased with the effort. The warm-up match for the test series was a washout and the tourists went into the first test underdone.
"We obviously had a disrupted build-up for the test, so it was nice to get 20 overs in," Fulton said.
"Most of the batsman got a good bat and the bowlers got through some work as well. So, all in all, it was a pretty good day."
Fulton felt the Black Caps would need scores of between 180 and 200 to be competitive in Kandy. But he conceded he was not that familiar with some of the fresh faces in the Sri Lankan squad.
"There [are] a few changes and a few different names in there to what we are used to and what we expecting, so that has caused the coaches a few headaches having to dig into the archives.
"But they have some experienced players in there as well with the likes of [Lasith] Malinga.
"But we are just trying to focus on what we do first and foremost. I'm sure, as the series goes on, we'll get a bit more information on them."
