Union, Oamaru and Albion secured comfortable victories, over Waitaki Boys’, St Kevin’s and Valley respectively, in the latest Borton Cup fixtures.

All games were delayed by morning rain.

In the Payne Tempero Cup clash at King George Park, Union punished Waitaki Boys’ decision to bat first, the school side collapsing to 107 in 28 overs.

Only Harry Mavor (46) resisted as Brad Fleming starred with four for 16, including a hat-trick, supported by Daniel Martin (three for 33) and Blake James (two for 25).

Union stumbled to one for two early but recovered through James (25), Alex Wilson (21) and Liam Mavor (43) to reach 109 for five in 20 overs.

The five-wicket win continued Union’s unbeaten season and extended their King George Park Borton Cup winning streak to 12 games since October 2023.

At St Kevin’s, the college side elected to bowl and Oamaru posted 197 for nine in 45 rain-reduced overs.

Lachlan Brookes (46) and Luke Taylor (35) built a solid foundation for Oamaru before James Ferris (31) finished strongly.

Liam Direen (two for 29), Hamish Fowler (two for 30) and Elijah Fariu (two for 31) shared the wickets.

Direen again top-scored with 24 but, with no support, St Kevin’s crumbled to 87 in 25 overs, Oamaru winning by 110 runs.

Ferris claimed five for 20 and Reece Curle two for 23.

At Weston, Albion’s tail wagged, adding 94 runs for the last three wickets to reach 187 all out in 47 overs.

Joshua Miller (29), Jikku Joseph (25) and Tom Squire (24 not out) contributed, while Ben Kay took three for 48 for Valley.

Valley looked well set at 109 for three in the 21st over through Campbell Fowler (24) and Jack Price (29), but collapsed after Fowler’s dismissal, and were soon bowled out for 134 in 31 overs, Albion claiming victory by 27 runs.

Hunter Growcott scored 37 earlier in the innings.

Jacob Davies took five for 15, including Fowler’s crucial wicket, with Tom Squire (two for 24) and Aneesh Bose (two for 39) supporting.
