Junior cricketers (from left) Jay Berry (9), Fletcher Key (10), Harry Bezett (10), Ella Bezett (8) and Brooke Paterson (9) burst through the gates of the University of Otago Oval yesterday.

They were a little early for the one-day final. It starts on Saturday. But if you are a  junior cricketer then you can get into the match for the princely sum of ... nothing.

Yep. It is free. All you will need to do is show up in your playing top or club cap and you are in. And what is better than that?

The Volts are hosting Wellington and Otago Cricket Association operations manager Tim O’Sullivan is hoping for a crowd of 1000 plus.

There are about 700 junior cricketers in the city, so if they all show up then there will be a very healthy crowd.

It has been 11 years since the Volts hosted a one-day final and it  was  "a good opportunity for the kids to come and see Otago in a final", O’Sullivan said.

"Hopefully Otago will be successful but come along and support the local team. That is what it is all about."

The match  is scheduled to begin at 11am. Club cricket will go ahead as scheduled after the clubs elected to play despite the conflict with the Ford Trophy final.
