Glenavy’s senior team has day to savour with T20 victory over Albion

Glenavy recorded its first win in senior cricket after coming back into the competition this season when it defeated Albion by six wickets in the Dick Hunt twenty20 competition over the weekend.

Batting first, Albion made 120 for six in its 20 overs, with Alex Martin (62) and Matt Finn (37) the best of the batsmen. Bowling for Glenavy, Henry Semple took two for 17 and John Julius grabbed three for 11.

Glenavy cruised through to 123 for the loss of four wickets as Semple top-scored with an unbeaten 55 while Matt Tangney added 21 invaluable runs. Heading the Albion bowling was Steve Halliwell, who took three for 21.

A fine 62 from Stephan Grobler guided Oamaru to a 44 run-win over Valley.

Grobler (62) and Nick Johnston (27) guided Oamaru through to 140 for eight as Liam Mavor took a four-wicket bag for Valley.

Valley could manage only 96 runs for the loss of seven wickets, with Reece Curle taking two for 10.

Union A beat Union Warriors by three wickets at King George Park. Warriors was dismissed for 142 runs with John White adding 45 invaluable runs and Matt Lilley claimed four for 10.

Union A passed the Warriors total with just three wickets in hand.

Blake James (45) and Mason James (29) were the pick of the batsmen.
