Veteran Green Island seamer Dion Lobb took three for 23 to help his side beat Taieri by six-wickets in the club twenty20 final on Saturday.

Lobb, who has taken more than 700 wickets for the senior side, ran through the tail to help dismiss Taieri for 141.

Opener Jarryd Taig has been in good form and scored 42 at the top of the innings for Taieri, while Regan Flaws (28), Brad Frost (24) and Riley Dixon (18) got their side through a decent total.

But Green Island all-rounder Geordie Scott blasted 40 from 21 deliveries. He also combined in a punishing 79-run stand with Mark Joyce (37 not out). Scott got out with victory is sight but the damage had been done.

Green Island had clinched its spot in the final with a five-wicket win against North East Valley earlier in the day.

Valley made 129 for eight, with Llew Johnson top-scoring with 42. The wickets were shared around, but Dan Fleming picked up the key wickets of Johnson and Tom Griffin, while Blair Soper removed Will Kindley before he opened his account.

Nathan Watt anchored the chase with 50 from 49 and Joyce added a valuable 30 from 27 to help seal the win.

In the playoff for third and fourth, North East Valley held on to beat Albion by just two runs.

Kindley smacked 60 from 42 deliveries and combined with Johnson in a 67-run stand for the second wicket. Their efforts helped Valley post 145 for seven. Matt Bacon was the best of the Albion bowlers with two for 12 from four overs.

Taylor Cumberland got Albion on track for the win with a run-a-ball innings of 46. Dexter Marsh hit a couple of fours at the death, but North East Valley kept its discipline and held on to win.

Jamie Murley was instrumental with two for 26 and Adam Flegg picked up two wickets in the final over.

Albion beat Kaikorai by eight wickets in its earlier game. Cumberland was to the fore again with 42 and Josh Tasman-Jones scored 39 to help his side overhaul’s Kaikorai’s total of 130 for six.

The scoreboards from Carisbrook-Dunedin’s games against Taieri and Kaikorai were unavailable.
