Another damp day at the University Oval has left Otago and Wellington with very little room to manoeuvre in their Plunket Shield match.
Day three was washed out and there were only 9.2 overs of play possible the previous day.
Wellington is stuck on 119 for three in reply to Otago’s modest first innings total of 208.
The game appears to be heading for a draw unless something extraordinary takes place today.
Meanwhile, Canterbury has seized control of its match with Auckland at Rangiora, thanks to some impressive batting from its top order. Opener Chad Bowes scored 155 — his highest first-class score and second first-class hundred — and combined in a 167-run opening stand with debutant Jack Boyle (81).
At stumps on day three Canterbury was 316 for two and led Auckland by 276 runs.
In Napier, Northern Districts has been set a big task. Central Districts batsmen Tom Bruce (115) and Dane Cleaver (108 not out) posted hundreds to help their side reach 377 for five declared.
The pair put on a Central Districts record fourth-wicket partnership against Northern of 176.
Northern is chasing 450 for the win and was 105 for two at stumps.
