Oamaru produced a solid all-round effort to beat St Kevin’s by 12 runs in the final pre-Christmas round of the Borton Cup on Saturday.
Batting first, Oamaru set a competitive total of 207 for nine from their 50 overs.
Asanka Gamlathge top-scored with 40, while Bradley Flint (39 not out), Hunter Wardle (37) and Lachlan Brookes (24) also contributed useful runs.
Jacob Fowler was economical for St Kevin’s, taking two for 14 off his 10 overs, with support from Lloyd Fellowes (two for 35), Hamish Fowler (two for 44), and Liam Cameron (two for 49).
St Kevin’s made a solid start to their chase with openers Craig Smith (55) and Jack Kelly (28) building a 58-run partnership.
However, wickets fell at key moments, and despite getting close, the school team were bowled out for 195 in 49 overs. Hamish Fowler finished not out on 21.
For Oamaru, Quinn Wardle impressed with three for 19, while Bradley Flint (three for 38) and Hunter Wardle (two for 42) provided strong support.
Over at Glenavy, Waitaki Boys’ were dismissed for just 60 runs in 18 overs on an artificial pitch.
Blake White was the only batter to make a notable contribution, scoring 20.
Glenavy’s bowlers dominated, Zach Graham taking five for 29, Jordan Mulligan three for 26 and Hamish McCulloch two for five.
Glenavy chased down the target in only 10 overs, finishing on 62 for two for an eight-wicket win, with Jeremiah Shields unbeaten on 23.
Valley faced a tough outing against Albion, collapsing for 82 in 35 overs.
Albion’s bowlers worked well as a unit with Amal Asok (three for 13), Jikku Joseph (two for 15), Aneesh Bose (two for 23) and Tom Squire (two for 23) all making valuable contributions.
Asok also led Albion’s response with the bat, finishing 42 not out as his side reached the target with six wickets in hand in 26 overs. Jake Matthews took three for 37 for Valley.
The Borton Cup now takes a break until the New Year, while the Dick Hunt T20 holiday competition starts on Friday night.
