Taieri to play NE Valley in knockout final

Taieri will take on North East Valley in the final of the Knockout Cup this Sunday after a couple of differing matches on Sunday at Tonga Park.

Taieri and Albion fought out a match which ebbed and flowed, with Taieri in the end coming out a comfortable winner.

It was a good win for Taieri which has looked to rebuild this year.

It made a disastrous start, batting first, and early on was seven for four.

It then lost its fifth wicket at 38 and it looked as if it had little chance of getting to triple figures.

But Elliot Love batted sensibly and combined with Jarred Casey in a solid partnership which gave the Taieri side some hope. Love scored 41 and Casey 31.

Regan Flaws then came in and hit some big blows while Brad Frost and Riley Dixon combined in a 10th-wicket partnership which got the Taieri side through to 188.

Albion captain Josh Cuttance took a five-wicket bag.

Albion made a slow start and Casey took some key wickets to get his side in a winning position. Jack Hunter backed him up with three wickets.

Otago Volt Mark Craig was the only Albion player to make a decent contribution with the bat, scoring 43.

Casey ended up with four wickets.

Albion was all out for 137, giving Taieri the win by 51 runs.

North East Valley took on South Otago side Kaitangata and the Dunedin side made no race of it.

Kaitangata made 62 with Otago Volt Michael Rae taking six for 18. Jamie Murley chipped in with three wickets.

North East Valley made the runs easily, losing only four wickets, with Llew Johnson, who has joined the club, having finished school, making 27.

The final is set to be played this Sunday though the venue has yet to be decided.

The winner of the final gets to travel to Auckland at the end of the season for the national club competition.
