Taieri 276 for seven
beat Albion 247

A solid performance by its top order led the way for Taieri to bag a win at home on Saturday.

Jaryd Taig, Beckham  Wheeler-Greenall and Fraser Colson especially  all performed well as Taieri put together a competitive 276 for seven off its 50 overs at Memorial Park.

Albion had a go at the total but was always behind the run rate and came up short.

Colson scored 109 and was dismissed off the final ball of the innings, run out looking for an extra run. He  combined with Wheeler-Greenall for a 71-run partnership.

Regan Flaws added a quick 35 down the bottom of the order  and  64 with Colson in just over five overs to give Taieri a very competitive total to defend.

Otago opener Josh Tasman-Jones scored 86 when he opened in the chase and combined well with wicketkeeper Tim Ford as the side reached 130 after 33 overs.

But the run rate was increasing all the time and Jack Hunter with three wickets kept the Albion side in check as the pressure went on to score runs.

The side was in with a chance, needing 70 runs with just over six overs left, but it came up short. Flaws bowled an economical spell in the context of the game to help his side to the win.

North East Valley 212
beat Green Island 76

The visiting side was all over Green Island at Sunnyvale on Saturday.

North East Valley batted first and though it lost wickets regularly, it battled though to 212 for seven  off its 50 overs.

Llew Johnson, batting down the order somewhat at number six, helped himself to 72 and got  North East Valley past 200. The visitors were 100 for five wickets but a fine 98-run partnership between Johnson and Travis Muller kept North East Valley well in the game.

Tom Beaton was economical for Green Island with three wickets and conceded just 14 runs in his 10 overs.

Beaton top-scored for his side with the bat but that he only got 23 showed how bad the Green Island batting effort was.

Corey Perrett blasted out the middle order with a fine spell and Green Island was all out in the 26th over. Muller took three wickets to complete a good all-round effort.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 89
beat Kaikorai 71

It was the day for the bowlers at Tonga Park on Saturday.

Carisbrook-Dunedin could manage only 89 at its turn at bat,  as  Joe Gregan bagged seven wickets in a top display. But the home team came out firing with the ball, bowling  well as a unit to skittle Kaikorai for 71, to give itself an 18-run win.

The grass was long at the ground and it was never going to be a high-scoring game but the bowlers put on a good display.

Gregan was on fire for much of the innings and the home team could not handle him. He was backed up by Ryan Whelan and Carisbrook-Dunedin was in real trouble at 45 for nine. But the promising Max Chu hung around and combined with Steven Newey to almost double the score in a 10th-wicket partnership.

Newey eventually fell for 10 to Gregan.

Kaikorai lost a wicket in the first over and half its side was out with just 26 on the scoreboard.

Rhys Bayly held up one end and had scored 47 of his side’s runs when he was eighth man out.

It was slow going but Gregan fell in the 35th over to give the home team the win.

All the Carisbrook-Dunedin bowlers delivered a great line and never gave the Kaikorai batsman much to swing at.
