Two chances to claim that elusive win

The Otago Sparks enter the final weekend of their Hallyburton Johnstone Shield campaign this weekend.

They face the Wellington Blaze at the University Oval in back-to-back one-day matches.

As they have done all season, the Sparks have named a young side for the double-header.

However, that group is now a season more experienced.

It has focused on development this season and is yet to claim a one-day win.

This weekend could be its best chance of ending that losing streak.

Wellington has just one win in the competition and is missing the bulk of its top players to the White Ferns.

Caitlin Blakely and Bella James provide the experience at the top of Otago’s batting order.

Blakely had a strong last outing, scoring 61 against Canterbury in the side’s last weekend in action earlier this month.

Sophie Oldershaw brings good form with the ball, having taken five for 19 in the most recent match against Canterbury.

Today’s match begins at 10.30am, while tomorrow’s starts at 10am.
