For Oamaru, Hawke Cup captain Jeremy Smith took two for six from his two overs.
Union batted first against Valley and recorded 126 for four off its 20 overs.
Thomas Anderson scored 45 at the top of the order for Union, while Blake James was 33 not out at the completion of the innings.
Valley looked to be on top early in its chase, but some tight bowling in the middle to late overs saw the required rate increase to more than two runs required for every ball in the final overs.
Valley fell four runs short of victory, finishing 123 for four in 20 overs.
Toby Growcott top-scored as he batted the entire innings to be 56 not out.
