Experienced Otago United midfielder Andy Coburn is delighted he will get to play a small part in the All Whites' preparation for the World Cup.

The 30-year-old has been selected in an All-Stars team which will put some of the All Whites players through their paces in Auckland on May 9.

"I don't have a lot of information," Coburn said.

"But I've been selected in an All-Star side to play the New Zealand and Australian-based All Whites.

"These opportunities don't come around too often. It is just the circumstances with the Australian-based guys not having any game time lately. It's a great opportunity to go toe to toe with them."

An accountant by day, Coburn said he had not received any specific instructions.

His plan was just to get stuck in and make the most of the opportunity.

"I just can't wait really."

Coburn was a foundation player when Otago United joined the New Zealand Football Championship seven years ago.

He has had stints with Dunedin club sides Caversham and Mosgiel and has played for Dunedin Technical for the past three seasons.

The All Whites play Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on May 24 before heading to Austria for a warm-up game against Serbia on May 29 and then on to Maribor for a friendly against Slovenia on June 4.

The All Whites finish their preparation against Chile in South Africa before facing Slovakia (June 15), Italy (June 20) and Paraguay (June 24) in the World Cup.
