It was a mixed weekend, although Southern United's futsal side claimed a key win on Saturday.
The team won two and lost two games in the penultimate round of the Futsal Super League in Auckland.
However, a late goal to Oban Hawkins against Auckland could yet prove decisive in the context of the season.
It propelled Southern to a 4-3 win over the host.
Southern finds itself in fourth place on 17 points, two ahead of the defending champion Auckland side.
That will be crucial as it looks to clinch a top-four spot in its final four games in two week's time, and reach the playoffs.
Earlier Southern had come out on the wrong side of a high-scoring encounter to open its weekend.
The Northern Comets claimed a 7-6 win in an unbeaten weekend which took Northern to the top of the table on 21 points.
The win over Auckland followed late on Saturday night, before a 15-3 drubbing of the Bay of Plenty Surge on Sunday morning.
Southern finished its weekend yesterday afternoon with a 7-4 loss to the second-placed Waikato Rapids.
