Otago No1 Duncan Croudis may have played his last game as an amateur in the national interprovincial in Invercargill last week as he makes a deliberate move to embark on a professional career.

Croudis (24) leaves Dunedin this weekend and heads to Noosa Springs on the Sunshine Coast in Australia with a view to gaining a card to compete on the Australasian Tour.

He will compete in stage one, which involves three rounds of stroke-play and, if successful, will go forward to stage two on the Peninsula course in Melbourne in January.

"I do not know how many places will be available at Noosa Springs as this will depend on how many entries the qualifying school attracts,'' he said.

"Generally, about a third of the field will advance to the second stage but I will just have to wait and see.''

Croudis is hedging his bets and intends to also try for the Asian Tour by attending the first stage in Huahin, in Thailand, on January 5-8.

If he is successful in this event, he will qualify for the second stage on a variety of courses during the following week.

Otago golf had its best season for many years, winning the SBS Southland Invitational stroke-play event and finishing second to Waikato in the national interprovincial tournament a week ago.

Should Croudis gain his card, he will be one of three players departing from the successful Otago senior team.

No3 Brent McEwan is retiring from competitive golf while No5 Chris Snow is adamant that this will be his last year at this level.
