Golf: Otago players hold lead

Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) and Inia Logan (Cromwell) remain in the lead in their respective sections of the South Island age group championship which continued in wet conditions on the Levels course near Timaru yesterday.

Hoskin added a 2-over-par 75 to her opening sub-par round of 72 to lead Holly and Kyla Winter (both Manaia) by six shots going into the final round this morning.

Logan scored a 4-over-par 76 yesterday, after turning square with the card.

He holds a three-stroke lead over Russley junior Tom Parker and is six shots clear of Harry Hillier (Te Puke).

Despite slipping to fourth place with a 74 yesterday, Conor Jamison (Chisholm Park) is Otago's best chance of further success. He is three shots behind the under-17 leader Jordan Loof, of Akarana.

Otago's teams fared no better on the second day.

The under-19 team is in fourth place and is 17 shots off the pace. The quintet should still be in contention if it has two good rounds today.

The under-16 quintet slipped to third, with little hope of catching runaway leader Canterbury.

Today's goal must be to make up a seven-shot deficit on Tasman and target second place.
