Golf: Two new caps for Otago

Samson Kim
Samson Kim
Samson Kim (Queenstown) and Brandon Hodgson (Otago) are the two new caps in the Otago five-man team which will compete in the Toro Interprovincial teams' tournament at Balmacewen on December 4 to 8.

Kim, a 16-year-old Wakatipu schoolboy, has had a sensational year, having made a vast improvement during the past 12 months.

Brandon Hodgson
Brandon Hodgson
He will make his debut at No3 position while Hodgson will play in the No4 berth.

Hodgson has relished the opportunity of playing on his home course this season, as his epic 23-hole match against Vaughan McCall clearly showed.

Brent McEwan is the undisputed No1 and will captain the team during the tournament while Michael (Moxy) Smith will add great support at No2 on his home course. Both of them have Toro experience while No5 Tony Giles makes a welcome return to the fold after more than a decade.

Chisholm Park's Mark Collie has been named as reserve after playing at No6 in the South Island teams' tournament.

Kayne Wardell (Allan Grange) made a late charge to make the team but his par performance will assist him for the SBS interprovincial strokeplay tournament in March next year.
