The first round of the men's coastal senior pennant series belonged to the ''minnows'', with Chisholm Park and North Otago posting wins for three points each playing at home on Saturday.
North Otago provided the upset of round one, beating the defending coastal and provincial champion St Clair with two wins and three halves.
St Clair No1 Brent McEwan has a liking for the North Otago course as the current course record holder and did not disappoint, giving St Clair its only win in beating Oamaru schoolboy Cameron Ryder 6 and 5.
Michael Ormandy at No3 and Roger Gilchrist at No6 posted wins for the home team, while Gary Creedy, Paul Velenski and Gary Watling all halved their matches.
At Chisholm Park, none of the home team suffered losses, with three wins and three halves for a game tally of 4.5.
The Geary brothers, Kyle and Sean, were always in command, finishing with 5 and 3 and 3 and 2 wins over their opponents.
At No2, Antony McCullough gave the Park team its third win, beating John McIntee on the 17th green.
In the battle of the No1 players, Mark Collie halved with Thomas Gillan, while Park juniors Conor Jamison and Cody McMullan both halved their games.
Jamison trailed by two with four holes to play but won two of the next three holes to be tied playing the final hole.
Jamison and Jeremy Morgan both birdied the par 4 18th to halve the match.
McMullan was one up after 17 holes but missed a 3m putt to secure the win on the final green. He paid the penalty when Balmacewen veteran Murray Edgar chipped in for a birdie 3 to claim the final hole and square the match.
