It was the only match played, as the matches between Chisholm Links and Otago Gold and Otago Blue and North Otago were postponed due to unplayable conditions.
"It is called cutting holes around the world in greenkeepers' language and is often used in such conditions,'' Minty said.
The move did not help his team, which went down to pennant leader St Clair 4-2, but it certainly did not harm his own game.
Despite the continuous drizzle, Minty was five under par when his match against Connor Ross finished on the 13th green but this was to be the home team's only win.
Minty's sub-par round was helped when he holed out for an ace with a 9-iron on the 123m par 3 second hole.
It was an unusual ace, as the ball did not bounce, slam-dunking into the cup on the fly.
Playing at No1, Island Park's Michael Wray held Ryan Bellamy to a half while at No6 Monty Wong halved with the experienced Tony Giles.
The remaining three games went St Clair's way. No4 Jacob Bellamy won by a large margin over Jarden Hammond.
Michael Ormandy posted a 3 and 2 win over masters golfer Andrew Hobbs while Stephen Hitchcox remains unbeaten, accounting for Kelly Adam with one hole to spare.
St Clair remains in the senior pennants lead after the weekend with 16 points and 24 games, ahead of Otago Blue with 12 points and 19 games, with a game in hand.
The two washed out games will be rescheduled.
The dates and timings are yet to be decided.
