The Thunder won both games of the doubleheader with the Wakatipu Wild in Queenstown at the weekend.
They claimed a 4-1 victory on Friday night and followed up with a 2-0 shutout on Saturday.
Jessica Ryall gave the Thunder the lead in game one with a goal on the power play, assisted by Kate Vernal and Abbey Heale.
Kelli Burstein replied for the Wild to make it 1-1 after the first period.
Heale slipped one in for the Thunder in the second, and Laney Keenan and Rosie Harris scored third-period goals to seal it for the visitors.
The Thunder’s dominance was reflected in the shooting numbers — they had 38 shots on goal to the Wild’s 19.
Game two started in similar fashion with Lyani Goodman scoring an unassisted goal to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead after just 1min 33sec.
The rest of the game was a tight tussle, however.
Heale made it 2-0 deep into the second period with a power-play goal, and that completed the scoring.
Thunder goalie Samantha Winder saved all 21 shots on her goal, and Wild goalie Zadia Paulse put in a huge shift to make 37 saves.
The Thunder (18 points) stay second in the NZWIHL, six points behind the Auckland Steel. The Wild are still bottom and seeking their first win of the season.
