Thunder prevails in thriller

Justin Daigle, of the West Auckland Admirals (left), gives Joe Orr, of the Dunedin Thunder, a shove during a New Zealand Ice Hockey League game at the Dunedin Ice Stadium last night.

The Thunder, playing its first game of the new season, upset the defending champion Admirals, who trailed for most of the game but scored with 39 seconds remaining in regulation time to lock up the score 5-5.

However, Paris Heyd found the winner about 90 seconds into overtime to clinch a dramatic 6-5 win.

The two teams will play again today.
