League: Odds worsen for Warriors

The injury-hit New Zealand Warriors have drifted to $13 to win the National Rugby League (NRL) title in Australia, their longest price since betting opened.

TAB Sportsbet further wound out the Warriors' odds after they suffered their third consecutive defeat, 22-24 to Newcastle Knights on Sunday.

The Warriors were among the competition favourites after their season-opening wins over Parramatta and Manly, but they drifted to $9 last week before the Newcastle defeat.

They host the Sydney Roosters on Sunday and received a boost today with the naming of previously injured key men Steve Price (throat) and Manu Vatuvei (knee) in their side.

Still, the odds-setters appear flummoxed by who will actually win the NRL title in one of the most even competitions in recent memory.

The latest market released today had three joint favourites all at $6.50: Brisbane, Melbourne and St George-Illawarra; while defending premiers Manly were $7.50 after cracking their first win of the season against Wests Tigers.

Gold Coast were fifth favourites at $9, while the Warriors shared the next line of betting with North Queensland.

Meanwhile, Ricky Stuart's Cronulla Sharks firmed as wooden spoon favourites after their defeat to Canberra on Saturday.

The Sharks were $3.50 to finish last, ahead of Wests Tigers ($6) and Penrith ($6.50).
