College A showed strength at both ends of the court to overcome Southern Magpies 67-50 in the ninth round of the Dunedin premier netball competition on Saturday.
College led 19-12 at the first break and played steadily through the second quarter to lead 29-25 at halftime.
Brenna Lyons (GA) dominated the shooting circle, landing 30 of her 32 attempts at goal to run at 93.7%.
Talei Pelasio (GS) was also on point with her shooting.
At the other end, the College combination of Maddie Tinnock (GK) and Perri Hore (GD) were on form with their defence.
College extended their advantage to 49-37 at the three-quarter break.
Southern battled hard in an attempt to close the game.
Magpies defenders Georgia Cournane (GD) and Rebecca Mace (GK) threw themselves around to try to prevent Lyons and Pelasio from getting easy looks at the net.
Goal shoot Chloe Davis shot a smart 92.3% for Southern Magpies.
In the only other game played on Saturday, University-Albion B and Physed A played out a nail-biter before University-Albion B came home to win 36-35.
Southern Magpies will be playing South Pac Titans Tītī in a promotion-relegation game tonight to see if they can keep their spot in Premier 1 or if they will be moved down to Premier 2.
Saturday netball will resume on July 19 after university and school holidays.
