Dunedin has under-17 title in its sights

Dunedin remains in the running for a national title.

It will play Manawatu A Green in the semifinals of the national under-17 championships at 10.25am tomorrow in Auckland.

The winner will play either Waitakere or Eastern Bay of Plenty in the final at 2.45pm.

That comes as a result of two wins in yesterday's first knockout games.

After beating North Harbour 26-22 in the top 16 match, it then edged Hamilton City A 27-24 in the quarterfinal.

Dunedin trailed 15-11 at halftime in the quarterfinal, but fought back to take a one goal lead into the final break.

It is the first time since 2016 Dunedin has made the top four at the tournament.

Meanwhile, Invercargill beat Hamilton City B 32-25 in its 25th-32nd playoff match.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
