Otago selectors should be spoiled for choice at the trial on August 5.
Among the 21 hopefuls asked to attend are two former internationals, four New Zealand under-21 representatives and a good core of exciting talent.
Former Silver Fern shooter and Steel captain Jodi Brown and former Australian international and Steel defender Demelza McCloud have a couple of spots booked. Likewise, Steel players Te Paea Selby-Rickit, Shannon Francois and Storm Purvis should not have too much problem making the final cut.
Purvis and Selby-Rickit are in the New Zealand under-21 side, which includes fellow Otago triallists Stacey Peeters and Zoe Walker, who will make a strong case for inclusion in the Otago side, along with classy midcourter Gina Crampton and up-and-coming goal attack Olivia Bates.
Kate Shearer and Kirsten Craig will also battle for spots in the shooting circle and have previously played for Otago, while Harriet Arbuckle was part of the Otago under-21 team which won the national title in 2011.
Otago under-19 players Sophie Napper and Alanna Smith have also been asked to trial.
Otago opens its campaign against Waikato at the Edgar Centre on September 2.
