University-Albion hit the ground running in the opening quarter, dominating both on defence and attack. Shell-shocked Southern had no answers and was left in University-Albion's dust. The latter led 19-8 at the first break.
Southern reshuffled its starting line, making five positional changes both in attack and defence in an attempt to stem the tide. University-Albion stuck to its winning formula and reaped the rewards, taking the second quarter 19-10.
At halftime, Southern again looked to its bench, making seven positional changes. This time it paid off and the game shifted in Southern's favour.
But at three-quarter time, University-Albion still led 50-37.
In a closely-contested fourth quarter both teams exchanged goals and University-Albion won the quarter 16-15.
Southern A coach Georgie Salter must be lamenting taking until the third quarter to find the right on-court combination.
In the Phys Ed A-Southern B match, favoured Phys Ed A crashed to an embarrassing 53-38 loss. Southern B pulled out all the stops as it was facing being bottom of the table, and with a fired-up Steph Brensell at goal shoot, it claimed the upset.
In the other match, Phys Phedex beat Uni-Albion B 55-31.
