Netball writer Kayla Hodge identifies three key match-ups between the Southern Steel and Northern Mystics.

Renee Savai’inaea v Peta Toeava

The two veterans always have a big battle. One sets up the Steel’s defence, the other sets up the Mystics attack. Savai’inaea shut down Toeava’s dominance during the Steel’s win against the Mystics earlier in the season. But Toeava leads the league for feeds (432) and prides herself on the flair and connection to her shooters. Whoever gets on top early could set the tone.

Carys Stythe v Maia Wilson

Stythe has had an outrageous season for the Steel at goal keep and took her game to another level during the elimination final. Wilson is an experienced shooter and knows how to hold her ground against the young gun. If Stythe can cause chaos, it could lead to the injection of Sophia Lafaiali’i.

Serina Daunakamakama v Katie Te Ao

Assuming the Mystics start Te Ao at wing defence, this could prove to be the biggest area on the court. Daunakamakama has been a little general for the Steel at wing attack, directing the attack end and is second for feeds (371) and third for centre pass receives (229). Te Ao, who been starting at wing defence with Catherine Hall sidelined, has a long reach and is physical, but will have her work cut out.
