The success of the world championships in Auckland earlier this year has rubbed off on Dunedin BMX hopefuls preparing for the club's open day at Forrester Park on Sunday.
In a change from previous seasons, the club is running its annual schools challenge as the opening event of the season, in order to get more involvement from schools.
And it appears to have worked as registrations for the primary school section are near 70 for Sunday's event, up from 50 last year.
Club president Jason Wadsworth said the publicity from the world championships had helped, along with information being sent out to schools.
Entrants for the intermediate and high school section had come from as far as Invercargill and Cromwell, Wadsworth said. The older section was being run for the first time.
''We're going to run it and build on that, really.
''The kids can come along and have a trial and if they like it, they can come along for registration day the next Sunday.
Racing begins at 10.30am.
