Shaun Scott produced a huge upset to eliminate seasoned international Gary Lawson in the quarterfinals of the North East Valley 10,000 invitation singles bowls tournament in Dunedin today.
Dunedin's Scott continued his impressive form from section play to win 25-12 against Lawson, of Christchurch, who had earlier won six of his seven section matches.
Scott, Ali Forsyth, of Nelson, Shannon McIlroy, of Nelson, and Steve Posa, of Christchurch, are through to tomorrow's semifinals.
Forsyth featured in the best match today when he toppled Andrew Curtain 25-24 in a real thriller.
Curtain led Forsyth 24-23 going into the last end but the Nelsonian drew a toucher with his last bowl to grab two shots and the match.
Posa showed his stickability also to beat Richard Girvan 25-23 in their semifinal.
