Otago diving coach Becky Marquet is continuing the tradition she learned from long-serving coach Dick Lamb.

Marquet (24), a student, has been selected to attend a week-long coaching Fina coaching conference in Mexico in November.

She is a qualified level three coach and will attend the conference that is designed for elite coaches from around the world.

"We are a bit isolated in New Zealand and it will be good to see what other coaches are doing," Marquet said.

"I enjoyed diving myself and admired what Dick Lamb did and the time he put into the sport."

Marquet gained her first overseas experience in 2008 when she was coach of the diving team at the Pacific Schools Games in Canberra.

Last year, she was coach of the New Zealand team at the Australian schools diving championships in Melbourne.

Genevieve Devereux (16), her best diver, represented New Zealand at the Australian age group championships in Adelaide in April, and next month will compete at the Australian Schools Games in Sydney.

Lamb was the guru of Otago diving and coached at Moana Pool for almost 30 years and produced numerous New Zealand champions.

He was the driving force who led the charge to get a modern diving pool during renovations to Moana Pool.

Marquet was a talented competitor in Lamb's squad and won five New Zealand titles.

She won a gold medal in the women's open 1m and gold in her own 16 to 18 age group in the same event at the New Zealand Winter championships in Hamilton in 2004.

She was also part of Lamb's squad of Otago divers that won 13 medals - nine gold, two silver and two bronze - at the New Zealand championships in 2005.
