Special general meeting to address clubs’ concerns

The Otago Softball Association has called a special general meeting for tomorrow night to address concerns raised by clubs.

Association chairwoman Sandy Wallace said the meeting would provide the clubs with an update on the state of the  association.

It had been four months since the association announced at its annual  meeting it was in financial peril.

Since then an executive had been formed and  fundraising efforts made. The season is nearly halfway through.

A letter signed by six clubs and two teams had been received by the association on November 27, expressing their thoughts and concerns.

Wallace said those concerns were primarily centred on the sport’s financial situation and some rules that were being put in.

The executive had felt the best way to address those — as well as to provide an update — was to call a meeting so everyone was on the same page.

Wallace would not comment on any specific details before the meeting, which would be at Ellis Park at 7pm.

Club administrators contacted yesterday declined to comment when asked for further details and concerns they wished to raise.
