Strong start for Southern Utd

A high-scoring weekend has given Southern United a strong start on the futsal court.

The side won two of its games and drew the third in the Futsal Superleague’s opening round in Wellington.

It scored 16 goals across those games. A 7-7 draw with Central opened the weekend on Saturday afternoon. Southern followed that with a 5-2 win over Capital that evening, before beating Canterbury United 4-1.

The results leave Southern at the top of the table following the first weekend of the season.

The northern teams will play their first games this week.

Southern will play those northern teams in three weeks at a national tournament in Auckland.

Semifinals and finals will follow on the Sunday of that same weekend.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
