Oamaru horseman Brad Williamson added to his family’s rich trotting legacy by training his first winner at Forbury Park last night.

Williamson drove Jeddy R Ya Ready, who he also part-owns, to victory in race 5 last night.

"It was the best race he has gone," Williamson said of the trotter.

"He was three wide for a long way. He had cover but he had to do a bit of work and came wide around the last bend."

The consistent Jeddy R Ya Ready is one of three horses the rookie trainer has in work at his Oamaru stable.

Williamson also lined up Lundqvist in the same race, but she galloped out of contention.

Brad races Jeddy Ar Ya Ready, who was bred by his parents Phil and Bev Williamson, with Grant Gray of Invercargill.

Canterbury horseman Mark Jones scored a unique treble  last night. Jones drove the feature pace and feature trot winners  after owning a galloping winner at Riccarton earlier in the day.

It was case of one former world champion driver filling in for another with Jones’s win with the Tony Stratford-trained War Machine in race 7.

Jones subbed in for War Machine’s regular driver, Dexter Dunn, who was busy winning races at Alexandra Park with Bonnie Joan and Bettor Joy. The 2003 world champion was impressed with the feeling his catch drive gave him.

"He’s a nice trotter. He has got really good speed when you ask him but most importantly he has got great manners."

Jones trained and drove Real Torque to win a frantically run feature pace.

The trainer-driver’s galloping victory came as a part-owner  of Sacred Desire who won race 7 at Riccarton yesterday for Riccarton trainer Terri Rae.

Rae also produced the winner of yesterday’s open 1200m  race, Riding Shotgun.

Jones can stand down as fill-in driver for the Stratford stable as Dunn will be back in the South at today’s Invercargill meeting.

He will pair with the Stratford-trained Mucho Macho Man in race 7, Simply Dreaming in race 8, The Night Hawk in race 9 and Benio Ben in race 10.

Rory McIlwrick, who has taken on a new role as the Knight stable’s reinsman gave the Central Otago racing fraternity  something to celebrate after Allendale’s win in race 3 last night.

Roxburgh Trotting Club committee member Geoff Knight and wife Jude prepared the horse for Central Otago Trotting Club president Graham Sinnamon and his wife, Dianne.

McIlwrick dodged early trouble,  in which Blair Orange was tipped from Ripsnorter’s sulky, before rating the horse to perfection in front.

"He stepped really well and rolled along nicely in front," McIlwrick said.

"I actually eased him down at the finish."

Allandale has the Central Otago Trotting Club meeting at Omakau on January 2 firmly on his racing programme, Geoff Knight said.
