Oamaru: Perseverance was rewarded when Classy Boyz won a maiden trot at Oamaru yesterday.

The 7yr-old qualified as a 3yr-old four and a-half years ago.

He has since had six trainers and a 27-month break from racing.

Nine months ago Classy Boyz was stood down by stewards until giving two satisfactory trials.

He had left stride twice in a race at Rangiora.

It took 18 trials before he achieved the requirement.

Malcolm Boa, of Sefton, took over as owner and trainer of Classy Boyz two years ago.

Boa leased Classy Boyz from long-time Amberley publican Neville Barton, whose brother, Stan, bred Classy Boyz.

The Brylin Boyz-Park Avenue Jane gelding qualified when trained by Graham Court.

• The 3yr-old trotting filly All Shook Up set a track record of 2.34.9 for 2000m when she ran her rivals ragged yesterday.

She established a 10-length lead in the early and won by four lengths.

"Her next win is penalty free so I will try and get that before she goes for a spell," Gavin Smith, her trainer, said.

"She has had some soreness problems this season and should come back a better horse."

Fly The Flag will continue with a start in the Harness Jewels after finishing second yesterday.

"She over-raced a bit and we will still go to Cambridge providing she comes through the race," Peter Davis her driver, said.

Fly The Flag, who had not raced for two months, attempted to lead over the last 1800m of 2600m and she finished a length and a-quarter from Cam Before The Storm, who led then trailed and came along the inner.

The trotter Galleons Legend recorded his third win in six starts when he led all the way yesterday and came clear in the closing stages.

• Andrew Van De Kamp was stood from racing until he gives a satisfactory trial.

He tangled at the 200m and unseated driver Tom Bagrie.

Suzali was badly checked in the incident.
