Cambridge jockey Matthew Cropp will not mind if he gets coated in mud at Trentham tomorrow when he rides Wingatui hurdler Suspend Us.

Cropp combines with the Postponed gelding again after the 5yr-old produced an outstanding hurdling effort at Wingatui on June 9.

Suspend Us warmed up for tomorrow's $20,000 0-1 win hurdle over 3000m with a flat win over 2200m at Oamaru on Monday.

Cropp was sitting at home on Monday watching the Paul Richards-trained galloper do the business at Oamaru and the win confirmed Cropp's suspicions based on his ride at Wingatui.

''He just wants more and more distance every time,'' Cropp said.

''With him, it seems the wetter the better.

''It's always been a real winter track at Wellington as well.''

Cropp was astounded how quickly Suspend Us took to the hurdling game to win on debut last month.

''He's an unbelievable jumper, to be quite honest.

''For him to go out and do what he did at his first start, was pretty unreal.

''He jumped like he was an open-class jumper.''

It took just over half a lap for Cropp to realise he was on a natural jumper as he tried to ease Suspend Us into his work.

''To start off with, Paul said to me to let him get his eye in and take it slowly.

''By the back straight he was jumping so good, and travelling like a winner the whole way after that. He put them away pretty easily.''

Cropp said the gelding was a clean jumper and was blessed with a natural action which assisted him between the obstacles.

''He's a big-striding horse which does help a lot with hurdlers.

''You get into that flowing movement and they get into a rhythm.''

The main dangers to Suspend Us should be last-start winners Calgalus (ridden by Shelley Houston) and Mahanadi (Kayla Veenendaal).

The Richards-trained Resplendent joined Suspend Us on the float trip to Wellington after her maiden win at Oamaru on Monday. She takes on a special conditions maiden field over 1200m, but she has received the visitors' draw of 13 in a 13-horse field.

Cropp has three other rides confirmed for the next few days with Muzza taking on a restricted open hurdles field over 3000m at Timaru today.

''It's a first-starter, so you never know and there are six first-starters in the race, so it should be very interesting.''

His other two rides come at Te Aroha on Monday when he climbs aboard Reeperbahn in a maiden highweight 1600m, but he has plenty of time for Go Jimmy Go in a maiden steeplechase.

''I've run third on him in the last two starts and I think he's very hard to beat on Monday.''

Three wins for Awapuni trainer Lisa Latta at Wanganui yesterday have put her right back on the tail of Yaldhurst trainer Michael Pitman in the hunt for the national trainers' premiership.

Latta was successful with Caley Rose, Hayabusa and Stuertzer to bring her season tally to 78. Pitman sits on 83 wins for this term.

Pitman has 10 runners engaged at Timaru today, compared to eight for Latta, while Latta has four at Trentham tomorrow.
