Racing: Four wins the best in a day for Orange

Blair Orange drove four winners on a programme for the first time at the Tuapeka meeting at Forbury Park yesterday.

Orange won the feature event with Highview Tommy and he was successful with Fuoco, Cullen's Rocket and Christians Mark.

Orange (31) has been race driving for 13 years.

He had his first win with Whizza Nova (trained by Tim Butt) at Reefton in December, 1996.

He has been employed by the stable of Mark Purdon for the past eight years.

He had previously driven three winners on a programme.

He rates Keepyaguardup (race 5) as his best chance at Ashburton today.

He drove Keepyaguardup to win at Addington on October 2.

• Days Of Courage, the winner of 11 races and $232,589, is now in the New Jersey stable of Ray Sharpe, the former New Zealand horseman.

Days Of Courage was trained at Kerrytown by David Mitchell, who shared the ownership with Glen Smith, of Timaru.

They have leased a 50% share of the 6yr-old entire to Sharpe.

Quality Invasion, the winner of his two starts, has been scratched at Ashburton today due to soreness.

"It doesn't look that good for him," Tim Butt, his co-trainer, said.

The 6yr-old trotter won at Methven and Addington this month.

Brent White trained two winners in a day for the first time yesterday when successful with Animus and Pegasus Falcon.

They are among nine horses the part-time truck driver has in work at Washdyke.

Animus has won twice from three starts since joining White 12 weeks ago.

He was transferred from Bob Latimer after being bought for $2000 through a website.

The 6yr-old is now owned by Ross Smith, Barry Phillips and Ross McCutcheon, of Temuka with Duane Todd, of Greymouth.

White has also won with the trotter Balancing Act this season.

• Eastwood Aurora ran the fastest mile for a mare at Forbury Park when she won in 1.57.4 yesterday.

She bettered the time of 1.58.5 set by Wats Up in 2003.

The mile track record is 1.56.1 set by the 3yr-old Likmesiah in 2003.

Eastwood Aurora was recording her second win in her first race for six months.

She is trained at Weedons by Neil Hamilton for breeders Lester and Sandra Melhopt, of Prebbleton.

• Fuoco, who won at his first start yesterday, is a 3yr-old colt by Christian Cullen and the first foal of Sparks Under Fire, a winning Fake Left mare.

He is raced by Christchurch breeders David and Kathy Rankin, Tim Hopkins and Ian Rule from the stable of Nigel McGrath.
