Irish Whisper won the trial by a nose over his Phil Williamson-trained stablemate and Jewels rival Springbank Sam.
Irish Whisper is second favourite for the Trotters' 4yr-old Ruby at $4.50 behind Thanesan ($2.20) with Springbank Sam third fancy at $10.
Irish Whisper has not raced for six weeks since his impressive win at Addington. He beat Fire In The Night by three lengths in a 1.58.1 mile rate for the 1950m (mobile).
The Sundon 4yr-old has raced six times for four wins. Springbank Sam was unplaced at his last start on April 7 at Addington.
The Sundon 4yr-old was second to Paramount Geegee in the Jewels at Ashburton as a 2yr-old and fourth to Kylie Ree the following year.
He has had eight wins and four seconds from 21 starts.
Williamson also has the winner Russell Galleon in the 2yr-old trotters' section of the Jewels.
