Geoff Knight has been pinching himself since lunchtime on Tuesday - and a brief look at the Addington fields for tonight explains why.

Knight's pride and joy, Pembrook's Delight, has drawn perfectly for the group 2 Premier Mares' Championship, with the random computerised draw giving barrier one to the Roxburgh-trained mare in the 1950m mobile feature.

Her North Island rival, Bettor Cover Lover, coming off a last-start win in the Queen Of Hearts in December, has drawn barrier three.

The draw is very similar to the 2012 4yr-old diamond at the Harness Jewels in June, in which Pembrook's Delight started from barrier two behind the mobile, while Bettor Cover Lover left the gate from barrier four.

Pembrook's Delight went on to beat Bettor Cover Lover, using the passing lane to claim the Knights' first group 1 training win.

Knight and his co-training wife, Jude, had been weighing up whether to head north with their stable star, or stay south for heats of the Southern Speed Belle series. The draw confirmed they had made the right decision.

''I haven't taken the smile off my face since I heard it,'' Knight said.

''The owner [Bill Bain] rang up and said, `Which draw did you want?', and I said, `I dreamt she drew one.' He said, `Your dream came true'.''

Pembrook's Delight's wins in quick times since she resumed at Winton on December 29 have meant a slightly easier time in training since her win at Roxburgh on January 4.

''We have done a bit of maintenance with her but we haven't needed to do a whole lot.

''They've been going a fair bit of time lately where she's been running, so we haven't needed to work her very hard. She's very bright and very well.''

Pembrook's Delight headed north on Wednesday. She is stabled at Robbie Holmes' property at Leithfield Beach, north of Christchurch.

Bettor Cover Lover's trainer-driver, Brent Mangos, took a fresh approach to his mare's tendency to switch off by sending her for home at the 400m mark in the Queen Of Hearts.

While Knight would love to upset the likely favourite again, he knows it will be harder for the winner of 16 races to be caught by surprise this time.

''I would like to think it's deja vu all over again, but we also know Bettor Cover Lover is a very good horse.''

Pemberton Shard, who ran third behind Pembrook's Delight at Winton, has drawn barrier four, while the Roxburgh runner-up, Flyover, will start further out from the sixth spot behind the mobile arm.
