Racing: Second Wind withdrawn

Second wind has been scratched from the Four-Year-Old Championship at Forbury Park tomorrow night due to congestion of his lungs.

His Dromore trainer Simon Adlam said Second Wind was showing signs of a cold after finishing eighth in the $40,000 Pelorus Classic at his last start on January 17.

He had won his previous four races and eighth of his 12 starts.

He has also had two third placings.

Adlam said the gelding had been scoped, then treated by a veterinarian and has been given 10 days off.

"It has come at the wrong time.

"As well as Forbury, he will miss the 4yr-old races up north.

"I hope to have him right for the Jewels," Adlam said.

The scratching of Second Wind has reduced the field for the $30,000 Forbury Park group three feature to six.

• Tycoon Greg showed above average ability when he won a qualifying test at Motukarara yesterday 5.7sec inside the required time.

Tycoon Greg is a 3yr-old gelding by Tinted Cloud from Flying Bee Bee, trained by Cran Dalgety.

• Larix created a fine impression when she qualified as a trotter at Gore yesterday.

Larix bettered the qualifying time for the 2200m by 7.3sec when she won her test by 14 and a-half lengths.

She ran the distance in 2.57.4 which is only 5.5sec outside the New Zealand record for a 3yr-old trotting filly set by Our Sunny Whiz at Alexandra Park in 2005.

Larix is a 3yr-old filly by Safely Kept from Tamarix.

She is trained by Geoff and Judy Knight at Roxburgh.

Larix traces to the family of Sapling, who won 22 races and was 25 times placed in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
