Racing: Slick Bird flies

Slick Bird lived up to her name with an impressive qualifying performance in adverse conditions at Forbury Park yesterday.

On a slushy track, in drizzle, the 2yr-old filly made the pace and drew away to win her test by eight lengths running the 2200m in 2.54.1, 4.2 seconds inside the required time.

Slick Bird is by Bettor's Delight and the second foal of Who's The Bird, a Falcon Seelster mare, who won three of her 20 starts for Kevin and Patricia Court, who bred Slick Bird.

The first foal of Who's The Bird, Who's Escaped (by Artiscape), recorded her second win from seven starts at Forbury Park last Friday night.

The 4yr-old is raced by the Courts from the stable of Ray Fidow.

Robbie Holmes, the Leithfield Beach horseman, expects to gain a medical clearance today which will allow him to resume driving at Addington on Friday night.

Holmes has been sidelined for six weeks with a broken collar bone and concussion after an incident at the Rangiora workouts.

Holmes has been engaged for Amazing Art in the group one $200,000 Sire's Stakes Final for 2yr-old colts and geldings.

Holmes drove the Lew Driver-trained colt to win at Addington three starts back.
