The careers of Macandrew Aviator and driver Max Hill are on the up and it showed in their victory together at Young Quinn Raceway yesterday.
The 5yr-old pacer chased down stablemate Chuckles to seal a quinella for trainer Kirstin Barclay and continue his outstanding summer form in race 9.
Macandrew Aviator came into the event on the back on fourth and fifth placings at group 3 level at the Northern Southland and Invercargill Cups.
With the aid of a perfect run in the trail courtesy of some aggressive early tactics from Hill, the pacer was rewarded for those strong efforts.
“He went great, he is getting better all the time this horse,” Hill said.
“He probably could have won a bit easier but he was just mucking around up the straight.
“But he always had the other horse covered.”
Yesterday’s win was the second of the new year for Hill, who also scored with Tommy Waterhouse at Winton recently under circumstances.
Both horses are trained by Barclay and Hill helped them make the most of their opportunities to notch penalty-free junior driver’s wins.
“It is great to be able to get behind nice horses like them.
“Everything is going pretty well at the moment,” Hill said.
“I have been up to Canterbury driving lately and I have had a bit of luck in the Revell Douglas series, so it has been good.”
Nathan Williamson starred at yesterday’s nine-race meeting when producing a winning treble.
Williamson started his day off by driving Millie’s Gift, named after the trainer-driver’s daughter, ran to an overdue maiden win in race 1.
Williamson then produced Donald Trump to back up his last-start maiden win at Young Quinn Raceway with another professional win over more experienced rivals in race 6.
Williamson sealed his training and driving treble when Ah Mach put an unlucky last start effort at Ascot Park behind her when sprinting along the passing lane to win race 7.
