Slick Kurow piles on points against Maheno

Maheno celebrated its 125th jubilee last weekend but it came back to earth on Saturday when it was well beaten 59-28 by Kurow at the Maheno Domain.

Old Boys continued its unbeaten run when it defeated Excelsior 38-20 while at Weston Park, home team Valley had to fight off Athletic Marist to claim a 24-21 victory.

The writing was on the wall at halftime for Maheno as it trailed 42-12, and the visiting side added further points as Kurow cruised home.

Kurow dominated the first half with tries to Isaac Milne and Tamiela Samita, and further tries to Hayden Todd, Josh Reid and Cameron Keech gave the visiting team a comfortable halftime lead.

Kurow’s Zac Strange and midfielder Ben Nowell added tries in the second to see Kurow easily home as it put a good performance together and was too slick for Maheno which was well off form.

Old Boys only led 21-20 over Excelsior at halftime but cruised home, winning 38-20.

Athletic Marist lifted the hopes of its supporters when the young side held Valley to a 14-all draw at halftime.

First five-eighth Owen Davey scored a try and converted it to get Valley in the lead but Athletic Marist came back and centre Mosese Aho scored again and Abel Magalogo’s conversion tied the score.

A try to Hayden Gold and a Davey conversion gave Valley a 24-14 lead before a further Aho try converted by Magalogo fell three points short of a deserved draw.
