Highlanders assistant coach Mark Hammett is leaving the franchise.

Hammett said today he was moving on after four years with the side.

Hammett confirmed he had nothing on the horizon but for family reasons had decided to leave the franchise.

The decision had been made some time ago.

Rugbypass.com reported the former All Blacks hooker as saying "I’m going to move on.”

“I let Roge [Highlanders CEO Roger Clark] and Azza [head coach Aaron Mauger] know that at the end of November.

“In terms of what does that look like, there’s been no decisions on what I will do.

Rugbypass.com said the Highlanders wouldn't be looking to replace Hammett, who cited family reasons as the motive behind his departure.
